A bit about the role:

LifeArc is a self-funded medical research organisation focused on delivering patient impact in areas of the greatest unmet need. 

LifeArc’s Global Health Focus Area includes three Translational Challenges (TC) in Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Emerging Viral Threats (EVT) and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) each seeking to progress healthcare solutions that will help rapidly diagnose infections and reduce morbidity and mortality. Partnerships launched include the PACE AMR Programme, iiCON, Crick Africa Network, ReACT Africa and the Africa Drug Discovery Accelerator. 

 

The Business Development Manager role will report to the BD Lead for Global Health and work within a team of specialists in LifeArc’s Partnerships Team. The post holder will be responsible for identifying, negotiating and managing multiple key strategic partnerships across Global Health and will work alongside Science Leads for the Translational Challenges and become embedded in the Global Health team.

 

About you:

You will develop networks with key organisations and develop relationships to enable clear understanding of landscapes of interest, and to assess potential partnership opportunities

Lead or support deal-related projects , explore and build high quality business cases for opportunities to advance scientific innovation towards patient benefit

Support negotiation of term sheets for prioritised opportunities and, with Legal, negotiate contracts according to LifeArc’s needs and requirements, managing all stakeholders and governance processes as appropriate, with support from senior team members

Working with science leads, provide BD input into internal projects and initiatives, bringing external insight and driving evaluation of new opportunities and key decisions in support of strategy

Use and/or develop best practise guidelines and standards, using and promoting a learning mindset across the BD team and the LifeArc organisation to allow BD to drive organisational success

Implement LifeArc’s EDI strategy and principles in the identification, progression and delivery of partnership opportunities


 

Education & experience:

Life sciences degree

Ph.D. or MBA or other equivalent postgraduate qualification

Experience in working with and across matrix teams

Experience in working in line with internal policies and internal guidance

Experience of drug and/or diagnostic discovery & development within the global health and/or infectious diseases fie

 


Skills & abilities:

Demonstrable influencing skills and ability to represent LifeArc in a wide variety of forums independently

Deep understanding of Life Sciences partnering, contracts and relationships and experience of relationship management within global health

Knowledge of, and network in global health, and awareness of this ecosystem in which LifeArc operates

Ability to assess risk and make appropriate judgements about potential actions

Demonstrable skills in having developed networks in infectious diseases and/or Global Health

You will be able to demonstrate impact by having brought developed business opportunities to appropriate governance forums for decision making
