Celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Articles & blogs

“Science wins when it gets the brightest minds and talents, and that means everyone must have an equal opportunity to pursue it.

Medical research is a field that simply needs the best scientists and researchers, of any gender. But I’m proud that 50% of employees at LifeArc are women. And I knoq that when the next generation of budding female scientists sees greater diversity within the sector, they feel more encouraged and able to follow the same path.”

Dr Melanie Lee, CEO

With our fantastic depth and breadth of women scientists, we at LifeArc are always keen to recognise and promote full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls.

Our showcase celebration this year takes inspiration from the UN’s theme for 2023 – IDEAS: Innovate, Demonstrate, Elevate, Advance, Sustain: bringing everyone forward for sustainable and equitable development.

We asked our remarkable scientists to pick their favourite IDEAS verb, sometimes ad-libbing, that they feel best sums up their work today at LifeArc and what taking part as a women scientist in this showcase means.

Thank you to our colleagues and associates for showing your whole-hearted support for promoting full and equal access to science for women and girls.

See what motivated Melanie to choose science as a career and the advice she gives to the next generation of budding scientists.
