Matthew Owens is the General Counsel and Company Secretary at LifeArc. Matthew leads our legal and compliance functions, supporting strategic initiatives across the organisation. With over 20 years of experience in legal roles spanning pharmaceuticals, biotech, and digital health, he brings deep expertise in business development, licensing, and risk management.
Matthew began his career in-house at Mettler-Toledo before moving into the pharmaceutical sector with Solvay Pharmaceuticals in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2010, he joined Novartis in Basel, Switzerland, where he served as Senior Legal Counsel for the Immunology & Infectious Disease Hospital Care Business Unit and later became the global lead lawyer for digital health across all therapeutic areas. His work included advising on business development, policy, and building internal expertise.
Most recently, Matthew was General Counsel at Compass Pathways PLC, a NASDAQ-listed biotech, where he established and scaled the legal and compliance functions to support fundraising, late-stage clinical development, and preparations for commercialisation.
