Programme Manager, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence

Helen Chamberlain is a Programme Manager in the Managed Access team at NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, UK), where she works on Early Value Assessments. Here, promising new technologies that meet unmet need can be conditionally recommended for use in the NHS whilst more evidence is gathered. Her career began in the NHS as a Clinical Scientist in Radiotherapy Physics, working in hospitals in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Manchester. During this time, she also taught on multiple higher education courses, including for The Christie Institute for Cancer Education and the University of Manchester.

Having realised she was particularly interested in how evidence and healthcare data could be used to help improve patient outcomes and experiences, and reduce health inequities, she took up a role in Health Data at Macmillan Cancer Support, before moving to NICE, initially working as a Scientific Advisor in Healthcare Data Access and Analytics. She has contributed to a wide range of projects and research and sat on the audit advisory committee for the National Audit of Metastatic Breast Cancer.
