A bit about the role:

This is a senior role within Technology Transfer with responsibility for independently delivering high quality technical insight when supporting internal and external clients in relation to identification of science that has the potential for patient impact

It requires facilitating and supporting the translation and commercialisation of that science including the identification and securing of intellectual property (IP) protection, funding opportunities and delivery of commercial licenses and spinouts  

The role may also involves assisting scientists with submitting funding applications as well as critically reviewing grant applications and final reports to provide advice to internal and external clients on all aspects of translation and IP management and commercialisation

 


 
About you:

  • Independently delivering the Technology Transfer services of funding, advice, and support to our current and future clients 
  • Manage a portfolio of Principal Investigators, projects, and technologies under development
  • Work closely with the Licensing Division to negotiate various types of contracts and for licence surveillance
  • Work collaboratively with different parts of LifeArc, including Impact with Partners, Technology Transfer, OAG, and BD, executing, and developing the longer-term agenda for LifeArc and our clients including the connections and ways to collaborate with Translational Challenges, Early Ventures, and Science to achieve One LifeArc goals
  • Taking responsibility for delivery of projects
  • Building strong relationships across Technology Transfer and LifeArc, looking for win-win solutions to problems 
  • Delegated to, owning the majority of their area of work independently, seeking clarification, support and input when needed. Brings new solutions and looks for opportunities to progress. 
  • Work collaboratively with the principal and the business manager team as they assess and execute translational science projects and provide advice. Identifies issues early in the process so solutions can be found 
  • Able to communicate effectively in written work getting the tone right and flexing their . for different types of writing 
  • Support the Business Managers develop their communication skills by editing documents and providing feedback 
  • Able to work independently, seeking input when needed, but with a strong collaborative . 
  • Use and work to KPI’s and targets. Deadline driven but considers how things can be improved in the future 
  • Provide reviews and recommendations of the IP and commercialisation strategies 
  • Support the Philanthropic Fund panel in their decision making by providing detailed review by experts in the field and due diligence of the project
  • The SBM will continue to work with the scientists to support the progression and monitoring of projects as they encounter challenges on their translational journey

 


 

Education & experience:

  • Experience of delivering professional services to external clients
  • Understand the translational research funding landscape in the UK and seeks to find the right route for a given project
  • Good understanding of Technology Transfer services and able to advise and support clients with confidence 
  • Financial and commercial acumen, enabling good application of judgement and decision making
  • Have a good knowledge of the needs of your beneficiaries, committing to delivering the best outcome for our clients, flexing approach depending on the situation
  • Good level of self-awareness, recognises own strengths, development areas and seeks to develop own self
  • Knowledge of IP and how to support and manage IP implications for stakeholders
  • Have a successful track record of handling negotiations
  • Qualified to degree level in a scientific discipline with a PhD or equivalent experience in academia or industry
