About the role:

The Biologics Discovery and Development group is focused on the delivery of high-quality therapeutics, using a single B-cell platform for antibody discovery, as well as humanising non-human antibodies. This role sits within our Analytical Sciences team, and as a Scientist you will use your expertise to develop and run our developability and other biophysical analysis platforms to progress our projects. You will be encouraged to contribute at multiple stages of the projects, with opportunities to apply and expand your skillset across our Analytical Sciences team and our Translational Therapeutic Platforms.

We are looking for an experienced and a passionate Biophysical Scientist with an interest in characterising antibodies and other proteins for the benefit of patient healthcare. This is an opportunity for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic person to join the Biologics Discovery and Development team within LifeArc’s Translational Therapeutic Platforms. You will support LifeArc’s drug discovery programmes by the initial characterisation and in depth developability and biophysical assessment of monoclonal antibodies, as well as characterising other proteins. A Scientist is a professional who can perform specialised and non-routine experiments and demonstrate an understanding of the scientific rationale of their assigned project(s). They work independently to conduct research and experiments for assigned areas for each project, analyse, and interpret the data and present results/conclusions to line manager/project leaders and wider project team).

Role responsibilities:

  • Support the production of new antibody therapies, target antigens, and other proteins by performing characterisation (including CE SDS and SEC MALS), analysing and interpreting the data, and communicating the results.
  • Address specific analytical questions using a wide range of analytical techniques including cIEF, DLS/thermal melt, SEC MALS, CIC, and HIC, analysing the data, and communicating results to the end user or project team.
  • Develop new analytical methods and data analyses to increase our capabilities and address specific research questions that will contribute to the development of new therapeutics. 


About you:

  • Demonstrated strong experimental planning and data analysis and interpretation skills, as well as an aptitude for picking up new concepts quickly.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • An ability to communicate across scientific disciplines and to small and large teams.
  • An ability to prioritise tasks effectively while under pressure.
  • Willingness to embrace opportunities to expand skills with new methods or equipment.
  • Has intellectual curiosity, as well as critical and analytical thinking skills.

Education & experience required: 

  • PhD in a relevant discipline/field OR BSc/MSc Degree with relevant laboratory experience in an industrial or academic setting.
  • Experience of characterizing proteins biophysically in an academic or industrial setting.
  • Experience with some analytical protein techniques such as cIEF, DLS/thermal melt, SEC MALS or analytical SEC, CIC, HIC, IEX, and glycan analysis.


  • Experience in mass spec characterization of antibodies or other proteins.
  • Experience of antibody discovery approaches, especially practical experience within a translational or drug discovery setting
  • Experience with high throughput methodologies and analysis of large data sets with associated data capture, handling, and interpretation.
  • Good understanding of antibody sequence and structure
