Job Title: Principal Scientist (Medicinal Chemistry Project Leader)

A bit about the role: 

Within the Translational Science Matrix Group, this role will work closely with the Chronic Respiratory Infection (CRI) Translational Challenge (TC) Leadership Team, to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of early-stage preclinical drug discovery projects. Focus is on delivering patient impact, primarily via development of novel antimicrobial treatments for people living with cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis, including supporting the CF-AMR Syndicate Collaborative Discovery Programme which was launched earlier this year. 

  

The role will require the ability to build strong relationships, in a matrix environment, integrating both internal and external functions. Project teams are multidisciplinary and highly collaborative, so experience of working as part of multi-partner collaborations or alliances is valuable.     

  

A strong grounding in small molecule medicinal chemistry, iterative optimisation, and experience of project leadership are essential requirements for the role. 

  

About you: 
 

Education & experience: 

  • Educated to PhD or equivalent in Organic / Medicinal Chemistry. 
  • Extensive postgraduate experience postgraduate experience, preferably gained in large pharma, an SME or a CRO. 
  • Extensive experience of medicinal chemistry hit to lead and lead optimisation with a proven track record of success. 
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of ADMET, PK. 
  • Ability to analyse complex data sets and design compounds to address identified liabilities.  
  • Experience working on antimicrobial drug discovery projects would be an advantage, but not essential for the role. 
  • Track record of publications or patents that demonstrate the ability of complex problem-solving. 
  • Experience in technical leadership of multidisciplinary projects through to delivery.
