Job Title: Cheminformatics – Senior Scientist

A bit about the role:
We are seeking a Cheminformatician to join the Data Science team at LifeArc to provide practical and theoretical expertise in computational chemistry and molecular modelling to support the progression of LifeArc projects and to ensure that we remain at the forefront in our use of modelling technologies.
Providing cheminformatics expertise to enable the progression of projects, and LifeArc platform capabilities including:
- Data analysis to discover key findings and opportunities
- Develop and deploy models using methods such as QSAR and machine learning to enable rational compound design and property prediction
- Work closely with project team members to propose new compounds and experiments
- Identify and critically evaluate new cheminformatics methods and software
About you:
Education & experience required:
- Experience in an industrial drug discovery environment would be an advantage
- First degree in relevant discipline e.g. chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, data science
- Higher degree (PhD) or equivalent experience in cheminformatics, informatics
Skills & abilities:
Essential:
- An understanding of key aspects such as biological assays, screening approaches, compound collections and medicinal chemistry
- Practical scripting/programming skills to enable data processing, preferably using Python, R, Pipeline Pilot or KNIME
- Practical knowledge of relevant cheminformatics software and resources such as RDKit, Pipeline Pilot, KNIME, Dotmatics, ChEMBL, SQL
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to forge productive relationships and collaborations both internally and externally
- Evidence of creative thinking, problem solving and the desire to acquire new skills and expertise
- Intellectual curiosity
- Very well organised
- Able to influence and persuade others
Desirable:
- Practical expertise with machine learning and AI
